![]() If the user needs to change the saved image in the PNG version, just use image editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Windows Photos, as well as Corel PaintShop or ACD Systems. PNG documents are also available in any web browser. In the Windows operating system, you can open PNG by simply double-clicking to view images. ![]() ![]() You can open a file with the PNG extension using virtually any viewer. You should know that unlike GIF, PNG does not support animation effects. ![]() The main difference between gifs is that such a graphic file is limited to only 8 bits (256 colors in total). PNG supports a color depth of up to 48 bits. Among the owners of web resources, PNG images are famous for their excellent characteristics against the background of such formats. PNG was developed to replace the GIF format, because the latter required paid software for a long time. Thanks to the Deflate compression algorithm, bitmaps with the PNG file extension are available for compression without obvious quality loss. Such a graphic format is quite often used in the world wide web when assigning different images to web pages. The PNG data contains a specific palette of colors used in the drawing. The PNG file (Portable Network Graphic) refers to bitmap images. In addition, it should be noted that browser support for SVG has proven to be incomplete - currently a large number of browsers, including Internet Explorer, require an additional plugin (which many users will not have) to display the SVG image. Specifically, SVG Tiny (SVGT) and SVG Basic (SVGB) are subsets of the full SVG standard primarily intended for use on a device with disabilities such as mobile phones or PDAs. There are several versions of the SVG format in use today (SVG 1.0, SVG 1.1, and SVG Tiny 1.2 at the time of this writing). SVGZ format is a modified SVG format that uses GZIP compression and thus solves the problem of large SVG file sizes. Support for manipulation and combinations of objects, including grouping, transformations and event-based scriptingīased on XML (which is essentially a text format), SVG images compress well.Support for vector shapes (such as lines, curves, etc.).The SVG format is used for both static and animated graphics. SVG is based on the XML markup language, and was developed as an open standard by the World Wide Wide Consortium. If only yours does, then it's a problem with the font-face kit.The SVG extension (Scalable Vector Graphics) is used primarily for vector graphics and is an open format. If both look aliased, then it's the OS issue. So, the testing strategy is to get a proven font-face kit, like Open Sans, and check that both your font and this litmus font render well. However, the Lab also includes a version of Chrome that pixelates all fonts, because it appears to run on a machine with anti-aliasing disabled at the OS level (yes, it doesn't make any sense, must be some sort of an inside Adobe joke). To that effect, Adobe Browser Lab includes a version of Firefox that exhibits above behavior. OpenType files are generally heavier, but they also compress better, so it's a wash in terms of a I/O hit if served over gzip'd HTTP. I spent a couple of days chasing the cause, but then gave up because I found a simple workaround. Also, same machines will render all other font-face kits just fine. It doesn't appear to depend on the Windows version (saw it happen on XP and W7) nor the browser (saw it on IE and Firefox). However on selected Windows boxes the font will render without anti-aliasing, naturally making it look like butt. It would happily spit out an kit, which will look normal most of the time. There are fonts that FontSquirrel generator doesn't process correctly. FontSquirrel font-kit generator is really good, because it does a great job (re-)hinting TTFs so that they come out looking better in smaller sizes (10-14px) A better way to browse icon packs though is with Fontello. This is a great starting point, especially at the sketching phase.ģ. IcoMoon will also let you cherry pick icons from a large number of both free and commercial icon packs. Instead use a vector editor like Inkscape to save your icons as SVG and then convert them to a complete font-face kit with IcoMoon. I just went through a process of a website for one of my projects and I have several things to add:ġ.
